This past weekend at the South Carolina Optimist Convention, we hosted a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Optimist International Foundation, and we're thrilled with the results! Optimist members had the opportunity to purchase 9 tickets for $10, either virtually or in person. For each $10 spent, participants were added to our raffle list one time, and to maximize their chances, the list was copied eight more times, giving each person 9 chances per $10 spent.
Fifteen clubs participated by purchasing tickets for a total of $600. With 540 names entered into the drawing, we used WheelofNames.com to ensure a fair and fun selection process. After shuffling the list five times, the wheel was spun, and the lucky winner was Laura Allen.
In a wonderful act of generosity, Laura chose to donate her $300 prize back to the Optimist International Foundation. This means that the final result of our 50/50 raffle is a $300 donation from our district and an additional $300 donation in Laura Allen's name to the Foundation.
We're absolutely thrilled with how well this virtual 50/50 raffle turned out and are excited to explore doing it again at future conferences and conventions. The raffle execution was caught on video, and members may watch that video below.
